Debi, so sorry about your clutch! I was there a couple of weeks ago and its no fun. I did have a couple hatch late, and deformed --- helped one out -- both died.

Don't give up! We'll be hatch buddies again.

Well today is day 8 and I candled tonight.
Out of 23 we have 21 that I know are good. 1 to hard to see but what little I did see looked good. 1 might pos be blood ring. I will keep a eye on that one. It is a blue egg so I think will let it go to 14th day.
Getting better hopefully I will know what I'm doing by the end of this hatch . Not as stressfull this time around.
Good Luck to all and sorry for all the losses.

Day 7 candle results:

Started with 65 eggs - LOTS of EE's, few Marans, and some "barnyard Mixes"

42 look good

15 not so sure (mostly blue ones)

8 duds

not too bad for such an early hatch in upstate NY (COLD here)

Candle again next Saturday

Congratulations to who have had successful hatches. Sorry, to those that haven't.

Sundown - you are quite close to me I believe. When do Silkies start to lay/become fertile? We have 3 hens and 2 Roos with no eggs and no "action"

When they are just new babies and they wake me up in the middle of the night (because YES we keep chicks in the living room till we can't stand the dust anymore) their incessant peeping is so sweet and a great reminder that simple things are something to be thankful for. My kids and I are sad to see them move outside to the baby coop. Love snuggling them with a paper towel on our laps.

BTW......................... I couldn't stand it so took out those 2 zips x 30 hours +: soooooo shrink wrapped! Would have died in their shells! Had completely absorbed their yolks. Carefully took away the shellack [most of it] they seem to be doing well. one has spraddle legs and will need splints and cihck shoes tomorrow if survives the night. Still 3 slackers that haven't done anything. Will be given until Monday before egg=topsy performed. Delighted with results!! THANK YOU Gamebirdsonly for entrusting these precious eggs to me!!! Pictures in am.........................have to re-charge camera batteries

Here's the last 3 from my Feb 12th hatch. The 7th egg was not a good egg anyway; I'm a dreamer & just had to give that egg a chance. The six bantam chicks are: 1 Faverolles, 2 Cochins, 3 Faverolles crosses. On to the next hatch, the 16th.

Good luck to everyone seeing pips & zips!
