We woke up this morning to 9 total, ran out to a 4-H meeting, came home and number 10 had hatched! But we realized one of them has a slipped tendon we think. I did some research on here and bandaged her up with vet tape....hopefully it works! We have 3 eggs left in the incubator, but not seeing any action on them yet. I also realized I miscounted my days, today was actually day 22 when I thought it was day 21! No wonder most of our action was yesterday and last night!

Hi! My hatch is just about finished. I was testing out a large old cabinet incubator that hadn't been so much as turned on in about 10 years. I filled it with 90 barnyard mix eggs, figuring that a full incubator would have an easier time holding a steady temp than a mostly-empty one. I got the eggs from a local farmer. Breeds in the genetic mix include Golden Comet, Turken, Silkie, Australorp, Rhode Island Red, and Easter Egger. How's THAT for chicken gene-soup? :-D I had 70 chicks hatch, including 14 Turkens and 20 Easter Eggers, 6 from green or blue eggs. Here is a link to the album:

Well we're coming up on Feb. 28, so here's my rundown.. Of the nine in the bator, i'm not sure, as the bator quit. I put the eggs under a broody who is hatching them daily. I'm not sure but the 8 chicks couldn't all be from the bator cuz there were 4 Del and 5 marans. I have 6 marans and 2 dels in the brooder. She still has 9, two of which must have come from the bator. I reckon I should check one more time but I'm afraid of disturbing her to much.
So for Feb that will be 12 chicks total. Not a good amount to the eggs that were started but this is life. Who knows tomorrow the broody could have more.

Well here's the update Day 22

Frizzled cochin eggs 14 to start with
Day 21: 10 hatched and 1 pipped, 1 dead in shell (upside down)


Tomorrow the Silky eggs go into lock down.

Silkies 12 eggs due on March 3rd

Will post more pictures tomorrow when I get things a little cleaner. They are a little messy.
