No they are not Wheaton Marans. At least they are not supposed to be but neither was the Buff Orp sold to me a s BLRW, but I digress. I bought these directly from Julie Gabbard's site where you pick what eggs and how many you want in increments of 1, 3, 6, 12, etc. I chose 3 Black Copper Marans, 3 Golden Copper Marans, and 3 Blue-Egg-Laying Ameraucanas. Apparently the Ameraucanas didn't cooperate so I had the option of canceling or adding more of the Marans so I just changed my order to eliminate the Ameraucanas and add more Marans. Six were marked BCM and 6 were marked GCM when I got them. I am down to 7 total and not really sure they are all developed due to difficulty candling. So the simple answer is NO, THEY BETTER NOT BE WHEATONS! I can't help with your dilemma as I am grossly uneducated regarding Marans. I was sold two adult hens last years purported to be Black Copper Marans and only recently did I realize they are Cuckoo Marans! I was staying out of the politics of Marans and just wanted dark brown eggs. These are much more mahogany red than the eggs laid by my Cuckoo.
Well see what color chicks I get! Good luck to you.
