FEBRUARY Hatch-A-Long, come join in!!

the only reason we have so many is that we decided for warmth and "day" light we wanted to put a white heat lamp in our barn... it is set on a timer outlet so they get the minimum requirement of 15 hrs of light

Well it's day 5 here ... and I don't want to candle yet. I want to wait until day 7-8 (this weekend) so I will see more if there is anything to see.

This is my first experience incubating and the humidity thing is killing me. I wonder how accurate those GQF hygrometers are? because that's what I have and am going by.

I finally got the temp to a steady 100-99 f and humidity is now 58% , yesterday and previous days it was in the mid 30%.

So my question is does it hurt the eggs to have humidity in the mid 30s% for the first 4 days?

Happy hatching all!!

My mottled and millie fleur bantam cochins eggs from Nadine arrived today!!! She is an AWESOME job packing them, all 23 made it here in perfect shape!
I picked them up at 9:30am and just set them at 7pm... do I count today to get my hatch date??
This is my 1st time, so I am very nervous!

I could be wrong...so anyone else chime in. I note the time I set them. 24 hours from that time is the end of day 1. I put a one on the calendar on that next day and count from there. My chicks usually start to pip on the night marked 20 and actively hatch the day marked 21.

I hope this was clear. Please continue to ask questions if it is not.

I'll be setting eggs Jan 26th for a Feb 16th hatch. I'm setting BCM's, Blue Wheaten/Wheaten Ameraucana, BBS Orpington, and olive eggers.

Going to set our first 15 eggs Jan 23rd. We got it planned so that they SHOULD hatch on the weekend when the whole family is off. Our eggs come from our own flock. You can see our Roo on my BYC pic. and on our page it has all the hens. They are a mixture of what we believe are Rhode Island Reds, Buff Orpingtons and some others. We believe most should be fertile since we have been getting eggs for some time now and notice when cracking the eggs open that they are indeed fertile. Anywho...would love to know if there is anyone else starting on the 23rd!

Anyone else excited more and more as the days go by? I'm past week 1, and really stoked for my babies. . . Especially for the fact that these will be my first ever:

Barred chicks
Colored (wheaten) barred chicks
Shamo chicks
Meat Project chicks

The most exciting part is that I get to sex the barred ones automatically by their white dot.
