FEBRUARY Hatch-A-Long, come join in!!

My hens are still sitting in their dog crates on the 7 eggs I gave them.I have a couple of questions,I set them on a Monday morning so does that make this Sunday day 20 or 21?I have been taking them out of the crates everyday to let them stretch and poop, they always go back in after about 10 mins on there own ,should I stop doing this and when? I am afraid that I will shrink wrap them.My nerves are getting worse the closer it gets!!!!!!!!!

How much cayenne to how much feed? Also, do you mean cayenne pepper? or is there a product called cayanne?

Ohhh I hope everyone with temp fluctuations has a good hatch anyhow. I am glad I was off work today because of the weather. I have been a little nuts trying to regulate the bator since I went into lockdown. Now the humidity is up to 80% I am so afraid I am going to drown these little guys! The temp has been varying between 99 and 100.4 all day....that perfect temp is being very elusive! The humidity has never gone this high - I guess I overdid it with filling the bottom channels with sponges and water! Not much I can do now though is there???????

Having alot of trouble...since my house has no heat except fireplace and one space heater... My bator has been fluctuating from 97.8 F to 100.8 F It get the low number at night. I have been leaving the space heater in the room with the bator. Saturday is Day 18...i am hoping for the best. I have not been opening the bator, so maybe they have retained some of the heat...fingers and toes crossed. I also have some in there thjat got in lockdown on the 16th. I have 36 more ready to go in, but waiting for the temp to settle after this cold cold spell. Thanks in advance for all the luck.....

Just got home from work and I have 3 Ameraucanas out (1 lav and 2 splits!) and at least 7 others I can see pipped or zipping.

I tried to get a pic but the window is fogged up just enough to make my camera worthless.

The BLRW haven't done squat yet.

I'm so excited to hear about all of the hatchlings!

I am rounding out Day 5 tonight with 12 Black Copper Maran eggs. I am anxiously awaiting Friday so I can candle them. I have a really old Brower incubator, but it holds the temp fantastically. I probably should have gotten the hygrometer, but I am just filling the small water tray as needed. Any advice for how to up the humidity on Day 18? Another water tray?

Sorry, Cayenne pepper, I buy it in bulk at the local grocery store (Kruger/Fred Meyer) I use a teaspoon per pound of feed. It's supposed to help with worms too, multitasking at it's finest. Careful not to breath the dust, it'll make ya cry

The chooks don't seem to even notice it's in there.

My 2nd homemade bator did a lot of fluctuating. The hatch ran a day or two over but still had a decent hatch rate.

Good luck to you.

Thanks...I sure they are ok...I just don't want to go into lockdaown early because of the developing, but I guess that doesn't matter...right? I would love to fill mine up with the 288 eggs to hatch, but that is no going to happen until the early summer.
