FEBRUARY Hatch-A-Long, come join in!!

Sorry you dropped an egg funnybirds. I've done that before too. It happens...

I have 9 out of 17 out now. There were some eggs I added a day late and 3 that I added on the 13th (2days late) when I set them LOL! So hopefully, they will all still hatch in the next few days. I still haven't been able to find my hygrometer haha. I will try to get some pics later.

SO far what hatched:

2 silver duckwing phoenix
2 blue ameraucana (hen)x silver duckwing phx( roo)
3 blue marans (hen) x blue copper marans (roo) (2 came out blue ..1 is splash)
2 key west chicks

bunnibird55 - OMG!!! I am a wreak too. I did lock down and the temp lowered , by time I left for work it was 97f so I turned the knob. I kept trying to get a hold of my BF and when I did 4 hours later he said the temp was 106 - YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!! omg did I kill these 8 chicks in 4 hours of 106 temp . I feel sick to my stomach and I'm trapped at work until 7pm tonight.

I had him lower the temp and open the bator to let some hot air out ... oh boy I really messed lock down up .

Ok, My incubator and eggs were the very first things that got moved into my new house on the 15th. I set 32 eggs from my friends "mixed" coop as well as 2 eggs from my coop.

I found 6 undeveloped when I candled. I have about 8 EE's that were impossible to see thru so a couple of them are a complete mystery.

I plan to top of the water reserviors and put them in lockdown this evening...

The housewarming is Sunday, I'm hoping for some fuzzybutts to have fun with

Anyone have any going into lockdown or about to hatch yet? Got photos?

I myself am having a bit of trouble setting up eggs for my next hatch. . . . Everyone's eating like pigs (I got through 3 bags in a WEEK!!) and all I'm getting a just a couple blue eggs and a bunch of brown eggs a day.

Come'on, Marans!

Come'on, Ameraucanas!

You too, Araucanas!

And most importantly. . . . I would LOVE to start seeing white eggs again. Come'on Polish.

I buy the $7 hygrometer at Wallyworld, I lay it in the open spaces on the turner (reserved for just such use) and try and keep it in the 50's. When I add water it can jump to the 60's but usually settles back down over a day or two. Then it will hover there for days until it gets dry and I've walked in and found it at 20, I don't panic, I just add water. I haven't had any ill effects from this method yet. My hatch rates are usually better than 75% and that's a number I can live with.

As for taking the eggs out of the bator, I put a big towel in the dryer to heat it up, then I folded it so they have insulating layers and padding, I laid the eggs in the towel and folded it over to keep them warm, not hot. I have only had to do that one time and it's not something I make a habit of, but that was how I handled it.

Good luck

Came home Monday night and the temp was 107!!! Don't know how long it was at that temp, but I think it killed the eggs. I checked them tues night(day 5), and most looked the same as they did sunday. This is/was the first time using this incubator, so I sad that they might have died, but I bought a dozen EE eggs that should come in Friday. If they still look the same then, they're out. So, I'm collecting more of my eggs to put in with the EE eggs, and buying a thermostat.

Those eggs are so dark! I don't even know what colour describe my SLWs as. Not quite brown... not quite beige... Hmm.. Khaki haha.

Here are mine in the bater!

sorry to hear that.

I'm trying to research 'anyone' that might have been able to hatch successfully when they had a temp mishap like us. So far nothing. One site said if over 105 for even 30 minutes and they would die.
