FEBRUARY Hatch-A-Long, come join in!!

I could not believe what I did today. We go into lockdown TOMORROW; this is day 17. This is our first hatch, and we are almost done. Well, today I was doing my afternoon stuff and went to turn the eggs and move them into some smaller egg cartons I'd trimmed down for hatching. So far, we have candled 100% viability. We have 2 EE eggs, 5 sebright eggs, and 5 mystery eggs. Well, while I was moving/turning the eggs, my cell phone went off in my back pocket, and it vibrates for half a second before it rings.

The unthinkable happened.

I DROPPED A SEBRIGHT EGG AND KILLED IT... IT HAD A FULLY FORMED CHICK IN IT... I FELT AWFUL.

The bright side is that I know now the viability of at least some of our eggs.

Candled tonight - day 11. Of 7 eggs under our broody, 5 were viable - visible air cells, blood supply, dark shadowy chick moving around in there. Sooo cool! Cracked the 2, and seems that the weren't even fertile.

So, we still have:
2 silkies
1 BO
1 BCM
1 Cochin

My 9 yr old chicken helper daughter is loving this experience (as am I).
