FEBRUARY Hatch-A-Long, come join in!!

Miracles do happen.

I have 7 due today under a broody.

I never candled once so I have no idea what was alive and what wasn't.

I had given up a few days ago (reason being she was in a corner nest in the coop, I walked into the coop and she was in the wrong nest on golf balls and all of her eggs were cold... I immediately put her back on her eggs but figured they were all dead)....and so I planned on buying 2 or 3 day old chicks from a feed store to put under her on Friday.

Tonight I go out to candle and put all the dead eggs into a sack and throw them in the garbage and to replace them with golf balls... so the first egg I pick up (a marans) starts chirping at me and I can see a nice big pip! So realizing I had just opened up the bator, I quickly put it back under her, pointy side down and walked out.

I should have known something was happening because she really pecked my hand hard when I went to go under her... she has sat very still for the last three days so I imagine she was in lockdown....

Can't wait till tomorrow morning!

Even if she only gets one chick, I'll be happy. And I'm gonna name that little Marans.. "Miracle"

Thanks, I'm terribly sorry about not sending you the pictures of your "Grandchicks"...I've been trying to delete my Uploaded Pictures so I can upload a few hundred more...look for a PM later on tonight..or tomorrow

I'm having the craziest night right now. I have been keeping an eye on my hatched chick and my two pips. I had an accident cooking this evening and my husband is away for a few days so I had to go to the hospital. I burnt part of the left side of my face with oil. Even after I saw the doctor, had cold packs on it and had it numbed, it still feels like someone is tattooing my face. It's 2 AM now... and I suppose I should make myself go to sleep. When I got home all I really did was eat and watch the peeps. I've been afraid to sleep because I don't want to roll over on my face

so upset...

If anyone is around, could they tell me what you think about one of my pipping eggs. It pipped at 11:30 in the morning and then the chick who hatched broke the membrane which was dry later on. So there was a tiny hole. I had to fix something in the bator so when I did, I took away a little bit of the shell and dried membrane to make the hole bigger since it had been hours and hours since it pipped. It still hasn't made much progress. The other peep is pecking at the egg. Is this all normal? Think the other one will hatch? Right before I burnt myself I saw another pip so I am excited!

We have ducklings!!!! 7 so far, 4 more working on it in the incubator and unfortunately atleast 3 that died before pipping. We aren't sure what caused it though. Any ideas?

Burns are soooo painful.
I had a pip and a zip, but the little chick just could not get the "cap" off. The membranes were hard and stuck to the chick. My humidity messed up in my bator. I didn't put enough water. So, I brought my bator into the bathroom while a hot shower was running. I took out the zipped chick, got some water and q-tips and carefully dabbed at the membrane. I finally was able to pull the shell off of his feathers. There is no way he would have made it on his/her own. The yolk was fully absorbed and he was glad to get out of that thing! I wrapped him in wet, warm paper towels to carry him back to the bator in the other room. I'm going to leave him in the bator for a couple of days. His yolk was all in his body, but it was kind of big. So, yesterday, the chick was flopping around more than typical. He's looking much better this morning. It took me a while to figure out which chick he was. I could tell that my chick was struggling and that it was due to MY humidity problem. I generally do not like to interfere, but I figured I was the one that put the chick in that situation, so it was up to me to try and get it out of it. It was a success, and I'm glad that I helped him out.

I have 29 eggs in the incubator set to hatch this weekend (Feb 19)

This is my first incubator hatch.

The first time I had a broody that set and she had 2 chicks hatch out of about 7 eggs.

A stray dog tore into the pen she was in and got her and both babies.

We have reinforced the pens since and hope it never happens again.

i think I just ruined my hatch.

Everything was going great, but I transfer my first 7 eggs to an LG right at lockdown yesterday. I warmed it up for 30 hours and the temp was stable for the first 6 hours they were in there. I went to bed and didn't check on them until 8am. I have the flu, and the last thing I needed to see was that the temp was 95 degrees. Sigh. At the most, it could have been like that for 8 hours overnight. It's now climbing slowly back up to 101.

Do I even have a chance at this point??
