I'm assuming they are white leghorns at this point,as many have said that's what lays TJ's white eggs.
Hatched 2/8 - 2/9

27 / 33 hatched so far. One of those disappeared in the barn thanks to my mean young BG hen, and I had to cull one this morning. I think perhaps that was the single most sickening/heart wrenching thing I have ever done in my 27 yrs of life.
I candled the remaining eggs and none of them showed any signs of life. I started doing eggtopsies(ALWAYS start from the bubble, just incase) and discovered that 2 of the 4 remaining eggs were unable to pierce the shell, 1 had not absorbed any of the yolk sac, and 1 is back in the bator, because it still has some life(hence why I always start opening at the air bubble!). I put a drop of water on the membrane though, as it looked dry, and didn't want the poor thing to end up shrink wrapped.

I was alittle depressed last night, looking over my remaining 7 eggs. 5 were still wigglin', and one was wiggly, but it look slike air cell is ALL over the place, unlike the rest of them. The 7th one wasn't moving, far as i could tell.

I'm stepping AWAY from the candler and sitting on my hands. I might have to have my husband hide it or something. LOL But I can't take the stress! I am having constant chicken dreams.

3 out of 10 hatched yesterday! Very cute little fuzzies.
Quick question though, do you guys have split hatches happen? Meaning several pip and zip the first day and then a day passes with no action in any of the eggs?
I always wonder if the soccer team that gets born first messes with my remaining eggs hatching. I seem to have a little trend developing with a few early hatches and then nothing after that....
Thanks and congrats to all!

As soon as I know that the last egg is hatched out or dead, then I transfer all chicks to a rubbermaid tub, clean/sanitize the incubator, and get it prepped for the "impossible" clutch!

How long do you wait? I've read of people saying they have day 25 hatches commonly. I'll probably wait until then, another 2 days for me, just to see what happens. of the 3 unhatched, 2 were alive but smaller than the rest on day 18, and the other one appeared the same as the others.

Well i might be able to join. A year-old silkie, i just discovered her hiding place (shes been missing 4 days, thought something got her) and shes sitting on some pet quality eggs. ill get some SQ layer eggs within a few days.

I candle at Day 23 to see if any unpipped eggs are still viable. If they show no signs of movement then I commence the careful & precise break-ins. Note: It is best to do this in the bathroom with showr on as hot as it can go.
