FEBRUARY Hatch-A-Long, come join in!!

Here's my first hatch, from my own barnyard mixes:

February chicks by Cowgirl Jules, on Flickr

Of 11 eggs, 9 made it into lockdown and 7 hatched. I opened the last two after a full day; one was full-term but hadn't absorbed the yolk and was dead and the other one looked like it quit a few days early. These are hatchery quality Buff Orpingtons, with one an EE mix, except the dark one. Pretty sure his father is my Blue-Laced Red Wyandotte roo, and who knows who the mother is. I didn't see which egg he came out of, but it wasn't the green one.

I have another hatch due on Friday, Blue Marans from heathersboers and Blue Laced Red Wyandottes from ilovefrizzles. They're looking pretty good so far.

I also have chicks due on Valentine's! I can't wait, even though I just had 4 little button quail hatch yesterday. What kind of chicks are yours?

I have a cuckoo marans roo crossed with some of my ladies' eggs: 14 EEs (i'm hoping to get some olive eggers), 4 buff rocks (i like the feather combo), 2 blue andalusians (I dunno what I'll get. Prolly something mean... my blue andalusian is an awful hen), 3 cuckoo marans (for obvious reasons.... nice to have something "pure" in there), and 4 barred rocks (I liked the speckled eggs, so I thought I'd give them a try)
I don't have a pip yet, but one egg is moving around. I'm trying the carton method.
What are you hatching?

I love my 1588 w/ the Big Window!!

That's the reason I got it, so I could get a good view of the hatching progress.

I bought it new from surehatch.com. I got the auto egg turner too. I have experienced great customer service with them. I LOVE my incubator. It really is a "set it and forget it" kind of incubator.... although, it's impossible to forget. I keep checking it for pips.....

It appears that I only have 5 out of the remaining 20 that are cockerels!!!

Here are the best examples from my most recent hatch. Note the difference in wing feathers. The pullet has fuller feathering on her wings, as well as a double layer of feathers between her "elbow" and shoulder, where the cockerel is slower to develop these feathers and only has one layer running from "elbow" to shoulder.
