February/March 2017 Hatch-a-long

I think we are all done now.

We started with 24 eggs, at lockdown, 1 egg was completley clear, not ferlilized.
So 23 went into lockdown. 2 zipped but died overnight, and 1 hasn't pipped and i don't see any movement on a float test, but we will leave it until everyone else is dry and fluffy.

So 20 little fluffy butts

Mine were kind of growly with me, too.  I started out just petting them a bit while they sat then started to reach under.  I had only left 9 eggs under them and when I collected them to candle today there were 20!!!!  Some of the clears were probably fresh enough to eat, but I have plenty and didn't really want to chance it.

Wow! The last time when my showgirl went broody, she was sitting on 15. I don't know where she fit them all. I'm not sure how many my silkie is sitting on. I did just candle though and it wasn't that great. I think she has too many (I forgot to count before I gave them back to her) and some were getting cold around the edges. Winter decided to come super late to GA and we had 32 degrees last night and it's supposed to be upper 20s tonight. So I found 2 clears and 4 that had definitely quit. There might have been more that quit too, but I wasn't sure about them so I gave them back to her. I saw movement in a few. Disappointing. But I know she's doing her best. I think she might have 8 to 10 still under her. She's around day 10 of sitting.

Today is the day I put my quail eggs into lockdown!! I'm really nervous

have to keep myself busy so I'm not constantly checking lol

So far update on my March hatch's... I have 6 successful chicks that hatched last week, I have had 5 hatch today though this 5 are sticky and lethargic. I will call it a success once they are running around.. one egg still in the bator has a pip so there may be more coming.. These are all from my barnyard mix. A 2nd incubator went into lockdown today these are eggs I bought from a BYC member and they are a variety of colored eggs. Really hoping for some of each to hatch out happy and healthy.

I ended up not throwing out those 4 I thought quit and put them in the incubator instead. Low and behold, they are still alive. One is having problems but the other 3 look perfect.

Good luck to both of you on your hatches!

Good luck to everyone in lock down!

Lock down starts tomorrow for the 25 I originally set. My broody gave up so I have several I put in today that should hatch Saturday and one duck egg tomorrow. Hoping the duck pulls through!!!

My first chick for 2017 hatched this morning (2 days early)!
Hopefully this is the start of a great year of hatching!
