Fed Mealworms Today for the First Time

I went to my local reptile shop today and picked up a cup of 100 mealworms (even though there were probably 30 in there). As soon as I started tossing them into the chickens they started going crazy. They LOVED them! I ended up just dumping the cup into their food dish and they must have ate them all because there are no more worms left lol.


I also bought some wax worms which are high in calcium so I will give them to the chickens in a couple days.

Hi! I'm new to BYC and wanted to share , my chicks love mealworms too ! And if you go on amazon you can get them way cheaper than the pet store !! I usually pay 11$ for a thousand !

Can you feed mealworms as part of the daily diet?

They would love it but I would do it as a once in awhile treat.

another way to save $ on meal worms is start your own colony. It is so easy and rewarding to feed your chickens..There is so much info on BYC.This is one of our little batches we had .

Thats a great idea but i dont have that many chickens to feed right now. So i'll just stick to buying them for now.
