Hi all,

Fairly new here, and new to a new min-flock as well. I built some PVC feeders and have noticed that the chickens love to hop up, kick it out, and spread it everywhere! I'm assuming it's because they like to scratch at it and peck it off the ground - is this normal/okay, or should I continuously fill it up? The bottom of the run is covered in feed.

Try making a 5 gallon bucket with two 90 degree elbows, they have to stick their heads inside and can't fling the food out.

Didn't know you lived in Florida my parents live in Englewood, I have had this feeder from when my girls were around 12 weeks old and it is great, holds about a months worth of food for my 4 girls and no waste, you have to cut the elbows so they are about 3/4 of an inch off the bottom, wish I knew how to add a link "jimmy walt"on here has a full description of how to make one but it's very easy and should cost less than $10.

hmmmm. I'll google it. Is it easy enough for a novice to make? I've not got no tools to speak of… and no one to make it for me. Englewood is the Jacksonville area, right?

It's very simple to make just have to cut a couple of holes in the bucket and cut the elbows, I used 2 elbows but you could fit 3 depending on how many you have, Englewood is in the sw near vinice and ft myers.I think it's in the feeding and watering section right now.

What tool to cut the holes? A power tool or hand tool? Sorry… I'm just not envisioning any thing that would cut the plastic very easily.
