I have a question as it relates to chicken feed. I have a very inexpensive source of feed here in colorado and am wondering about nutrional content for my layers as well as the young stuff I am feeding.
There is a mill very near me that cleans and screens grains for human consumption. After screening, the grain that goes through the screen, and is broken or for some reason misses the grade is ground for feed. He mixes wheat 75% corn 15% and beans (not soy) but black beans and pinto's to round out the feed. The feed tests right at 16% protein. The chickens seem to eat it ok but probably not with the relish they ate the layena. They look good and are in good flesh.
Am I missing some important nutrtion and if so is there a supplement. I repeat this feed is at a very low cost to me, less than half regular feed and I can trade eggs and chickens as well.

To other Coloradans this guy is near Longmont, he is great guy and tells me he talked to an animal nutrionist that indicates this is pretty darn good feed. If we get a green light I can get you his contact information. My pigs are doing very well on this feed.
