I was taught the alligator wants to eat the larger number. When I was home schooling my grandson we had a good laugh over some of the ways I was taught to remember things.

I was taught that pacman eats the larger number. (Sometime later I learned who pacman was, and then it made more sense.)

I've also heard the explanation that the small end is toward the small number, and the big end is toward the big number.

You are young! Pacman would be years in the future when I learned math. Now it is such a "nothing" that you didn't know what it was That makes me pretty old doesn't it.

I belong in the can't camp. Never taught math, just basic arithmatic.
