I only have about 425sq' per hen, but we have a mostly wild yard, especially this year. Lots of different kinds of grasses, clover berries, herbs etc. Food is always offered, but they mostly eat what they forage.

I jumped to the end of the thread to read backwards, landed here and started thinking that 'alligators eat the larger number' was predator talk of eating larger number of chickens. Glad the chooks are not being eaten by the gators!I was taught the alligator wants to eat the larger number. When I was home schooling my grandson we had a good laugh over some of the ways I was taught to remember things.

Well, most of mine have access to four acres. And some to a fenced backyard just shy of 1000 square feet when I turn them out in the evening to scrounge for bugs and other things to interest them.Thank you. It was to separate between large lot/acreage and suburban back yard, I think
