Hi. I have hatched chicks and they are brahma. They used to feed on starter feed however since they have aged above 5 weeks they have stopped eating feeds. They free range and eat grass but I have tried mixed starter feed with grower feed. Bought different grower feeds but still not eating. However I had to provide for them every day eggs and other home foods which they love to eat. I m worried I cant get them to eat feeds. Would really appreciate your help please. They are now 7 weeks.

I dont provide them many. Only 1 inlet and in evening either rice or something other home food. Sometimes pasta or something. Should I banned all other food for a day or 2 to see would they start eating feed.

I'm not sure what an inlet is...but I don't think the chickens need to fill up on rice/pasta. What you consider "not much", may in reality, be a lot for a chicken. I would stop feeding them all the other food and offer only the feed.

Tip: All my birds think anything I throw on the ground is a treat. So cut out all the ‘treats’ and instead throw some feed on the ground for them to pick at. Also, mixing the old feed with the new feed 50/50 until the old feed is gone helps them adjust to the new feed.

Try adding water to the feed- make it wet and sprinkle a few tempting small seeds on top or dark bits to attract their attention. Often chickens enjoy wet feed. I give this “treat” to them and they LOVE it, and are still eating their feed.

Pasta and rice are not providing much nutrition.

An adult bird eats 1/4-1/3 pound of food a day. Treats should be 10% or less. That works out to approx one Tablespoon of treats per bird .... so, maybe your little bit is really a lot. Add in free ranging and there is little reason to eat their feed.

If I plan to give Actual treats (not just wet feed), I give them later, after they have been eating feed for several hours.
