Feed Recipe - Not Sure How Much Of What...

Awesome! Let me/us know how your chickens like it!

I think I am going to cut back on a few things in the vitamins/mineral department because I did add extra goodies to provide a larger amount of nutrition than any pre-made feed would have. I am going to up the Alfalfa some and figure out how to get more vitamin K in the mix...

For my own records, my current mix is...

20% Corn
15% Soybeans (Roasted)
15% Oats
10% Wheat
10% Grit
10% Alfalfa
5% Sunflowers
9% Fish Meal
6% Vitamins & Minerals (Kelp and NutriBalancer if I can get them)

I can understand them not wanting to put it through the crimper, but not sure about the mixer. I'll see. I can always feed it free choice.

And Alfalfa is high in vitamin K. So, I really only need A-C-E, salt, trace calcuim and zinc. I may add some potassium and see if they have anything probiotic to add.

No, my mill wouldn't put it through the mixer. The barley is the only grain that is getting crimped. The rest is staying whole. Good luck with your feed recipe!

Sounds good.

Okay, I talked to the mill and they use a pre-made vitamin/mineral mix and I only need 25# per ton, but I am going to do 30#.

20% Corn ($29.60)
15% Soybeans (Roasted) ($32.70)
15% Oats ($25.80)
10% Wheat ($20.80)
10% Grit ($19.90)
10% Alfalfa ($20.10)
5% Sunflowers ($29.95)
9% Fish Meal ($22.50)
3% Vitamins & Minerals ($16.50)
3% Molasses ($4.20)
($201.25)

$16.00 to Mix
$6.00 to Crack/Crimp Soybeans, Corn and Alfalfa pellets
$6.00 to bag (I have my own bags)

Total: $229.25 per HALF Ton (I called it a ton again, sorry!)

That's $11.47 per 50#. It's only $2 more than what I am spending now. If it works like it should, it'll be worth it. If not... Well, back to the stuff the mill already makes.

Are you sure that total is right??? That's really cheap. I think mine is around $750 a ton. Heck if that's what you're paying I'll drive up to your mill.

ETA: They will mix the grit in because it's only 10% of the mix. He said they can't have it in there long, but to just mix it through at the end should be okay.
