Feed Storage for flock

I keep my buckets in the shed and fill the feeder from there.
I only have six girls---those with big flocks have different considerations altogether and I can certainly see how the buckets wouldn't work for them.

I do have 31 birds lol. That and I am an old lady. I have 4 for the feed since I get 2 bags at a time.

I use a 5 gallon metal trash can that I put inside a 13 gallon trash can on wheels. This has worked out well. Last you I found out that mice can chew through a plastic trash can, a friend of mind told me about the metal can. I have not had a problem since.

I use 55 gallon heavy gauge plastic drums for my main storage. Holds about 300 pounds of feed. Not sure how much a 35 gallon drum holds. A 5 gallon bucket with gamma lid can hold about 23 pounds of feed. On pasture I use a mortar shell ammo can, its air tight, water tight and pretty indestructible and can hold 35 pounds or so of feed.

I use five-gallon buckets with Gamma lids.

I am a gamma lid user.
I find it much easier to carry 25 pounds to refill feeders then a 50# bag. I do keep my feed indoors in a spare room though.

As I get older I can't carry as much. I leave the bag of feed in the back of my SUV when I purchase it. I bring the buckets to the vehicle, undo the bag and pour from there. I can carry the buckets when I am able, but at times I use a hand truck to wheel the buckets around.

Buckets are stored near the coop for ease of use.
