Feed Store Trip... (WHO COULD RESIST?!) + Pictures Added!

Yup. That's how it starts. And if you lose one, and wish to replace it, you cannot go just get ONE chick. Nobody buys ONE chick. Gotta bring at least TWO home. If misfortune occurs, and you lose two, well, 3 or more will fill the void created by their loss.

Got pictures this evening! Excuse the poop on Little Red's foot lol.

Little Red = Rhode Island Red

Easter Egger is unnamed until I see her personality a little bit.

Chicken math is when you go in for X number of chicks and come home with x plus y number of chicks. I've been told that chicken algebra is when chicken math progresses to the point that you don't know how many chickens you have. My husband says I'm studying for a doctorate in chicken calculus!

OK, 8 am definitely going to have to stay away from the feed stores! How did you ever limit yourself to only two???

So can we all agree its the fault of the feed stores? Those chicks are irresistible! And whats a few more when you have the brooder set up anyway? Love, it Doctorate in Chicken Calculus.

I just hatched 4 BCM chicks yesterday and the day before, so what am I doing this morning? Watching the clock because the lady at the feed store said the chicks usually come in around 9:30am! See, I can justify this because...

1) I'm getting chicks that I was GOING to order a month ago, but waited too long and the hatchery ran out;
2) They're the same age as my BCM chicks so I can put them right in the brooder with them; and
3) My girlfriend wants a BR pullet, so I'm going to get her two chicks because she can't raise one alone.

I plan on coming home with 1 Speckled Sussex, 1 RIR, and 1 Welsummer, all pullets. Well, maybe 2 Welsummers. Of course, the SS are beautiful hens, so maybe 2 of those, too. And my husband's favorite hen is the BR, so maybe another of those.

Uh, oh, it's happening again...............

The only reason I was limited is because I am having my friend brood them with her current batch of chicks. If I were able to brood myself I would have gotten about EIGHT lol!!! But hopefully both of these chickies are girlies. This is my first go with Rhode Island Reds. I am SO EXCITED!

And I have a dog kennel to put inside the big 8x8 coop so they can integrate into my flock without harm! At least until they are old enough to withstand the hierarchy.
