Sizzles from emvickrey - there are 6 :)

Omgosh that is a lot of chicks going into the fall. My Broodies are hatching and se have chicks. The dUccles were doing a good job for about a half second, I had two girls on one clutch of 9 chicks and they are now down to 2 chicks. Stupid girls were leaving them outside of the coop and they got cold and were dying, I managed to save them 3 times, but one day I was late coming home and didn't get them in in time, I am now locking them in the coop, my other dUccle is fairing better with her 7 chicks I haven't let her out all

we tend to hatch year round.. I take a couple of weeks off during the summer for incubator maintenance and such.. then another small break during the winter.. each break is only a couple of weeks... then it's back to setting eggs again..

yeah... i need a life!

edited to add.. I have 45 chicks now in brooders.. lol.. want some?

WHAT do you do with that many chickens? Do you sell Em all as chicks? Or do you grow them all out? If so WHERE? Yikes !

ETA: Pssssst! What kind of babies do you have?

Not wanting to brood this winter. Want to get a handle on things, and cut down on feed. Have narrowed down to a few breeds and want to only

sell hatching eggs, well maybe a few chicks, I did just buy a brinsea though

I have d'Uccles and Silkied Feathered AM's I want to work on, the d'Uccles are easy in the winter, LF now that is a hand full. I might wait until end of winter to hatch them or maybe just do small hatches

I wish more folks would chat here I love to chat. I check this thread throughout the day while at work and home. Especially while cooking dinner. Sometimes though I forget I'm cooking and burn stuff, cheese covers it well

I am not sure if anyone following my current (and seemingly scandalous) auction, but egg numbers have been updated. I am sorry if anyone was upset about the method of my auction. I just wanted the freshest eggs possible to go out. And I am sick of wasting my eggs because I just don't get the time to post them. I do not like posting an auction over the weekend anyways, because of not being able to ship in a timely manner.

Anyways, the MFCs and the Blue/Black Bantam Cochins made what I said the minimum number of eggs would be. The LF chocolates made the lowest estimated number (3-6) with 4 eggs. The bantam choc Orps broke 2 eggs and left me with only 4. Both chocolate pens (bantam and LF) eggs will be delayed until after Monday's collection and shipped Tuesday.

well.. I have French Black Copper Marans pipping right now...

in the brooders I have:
Lavender Araucanas
Yokohamas
Dorkings
Ameraucana (they look to be pure so far.. time will tell once they feather out)...
Turkeys
Lemon Cuckoo Orpingtons
Lavender Cuckoo Orpington
English Orpingtons
SBEL

We usually grow the chicks out and see how they look.. then cull (freezer camp) or give away the ones we don't want
Sometimes I'll give away a few chicks if I end up with too many of one breed to deal with...

Wheaten Marans (Texas)
Birchen marans (Texas)
White Marans (Texas)
