"I like this site"
!
I edited this post for you. Feel free to use the edited version. I took out all the superfluous words and condensed the message to save BYC bandwidth so they have more money to spend on my suggestion and the all Turkey Calendar for 2019.
As always you can just send me a check for the work I did editing.![]()
Well said @Farmer Connie ! I could sign on to that, pretty much word for word except that I did join under the old system.I have been following this thread since day one but wanted to digest the entire general consensus of the community before I contributed with two cents.
I joined this pretty cool community after the big change. Therefore I really have zero knowledge of the previous site nor formats, applications and features.
I can't argue that what is new is better, worse, missing or has changed for the good or worse.
A lot of my friends I made here obvious miss the old format. I have not only gathered that assumption on this thread but other threads as well.
So my input is-- I feel my opinion would be worthless if I can't agree with previous comments of going back to a system that I am not experienced with.
I'm going to reply to the O.P. anyway.
The Current like system is a little cliche, similar w/Facebook style but it allows Everyone to contribute to the forums, (as said previously).
A way of saying.. I was here. I read your posts. I enjoy reading your posts. If there wasn't a quick simple way of replying using the like button, most would be just lurking & trolling in the shadows like unknown ghosts in the machine.
In a sense I appreciate seeing that several members clicked like on my contributions for the fact it makes me feel like I belong to the community and somebody has taking the time to actually take a moment out of their busy schedule to review something I do/did, as silly as most are but left acknowledgement that I'm not ignored or being over looked or forgotten or outcast.
(NOT IN A POPULARITY CONTEST WAY).
So if there was another way to signify you have read the post, not necessarily a like button but perhaps.. a meter of sorts, read button, viewed tab, smiley button thumbs up/down (or peace sign lol).
Just a way of acknowledging in a friendly way.
I think the star rating system could be miss comprehended as much as the older members feel the like button is miss comprehended.
I tend to exploit the emojies now more often in a reply to a post v.s. clicking "like" on posts that I appreciate, to not abuse the like feature. Even though I did like the post.
When I first joined the site, I was hiding in the shadows. Reading and absorbing the feel of the community. Before I dove in, I dipped my toes in and tested the water by using the LIKE feature. Then one day finally jumped in. Must have read 100 posts from some many members. Those members never new I was there, hiding in the bushes and not contributing to the community as a registered member, like an anonymous site visitor.
If the Like button is changed, there needs to be a way for all registered members to contribute in a quick and simple way instead of hiding in the shadows like a ghost.
I'm em-connie & I'm proud to say..
"I like this site"
Personally, I just use the like alert to jump between threads quickly.
No - is that new just today?! That was one of the things I was wishing we had. I've been sending the thumbs up emoji to folks...Did you all notice that now we can like posts in conversations?
