Feeder for chicks

Hi everyone. I am new to this whole chicken thing and need some advice. I have six beautiful chicks. I got them Friday and they have been doing very well, no pasty butt and they go into there mama heating pad cave at night. My question is how do I get them to eat out of the feeder? At the moment they are eating off a plastics plate and are scratching it all over the place. I don't mind the scratching , I know that is normal but I would like them to eat out of the feeder too. I did put it in and put the plate close to it but they would not go eat out of it. Any suggestion would be helpful. Thanks.

Oh one more thing, do chick made a purring noise? I have picked a couple of my girls up and when I pet them they sound like they are purring it very cute.

They will use the feeder if it’s the only option they are creatures of habit..

Have the feeder as the sole food source-- they will eat out of it, trust me.
And yes, isn't their little purr adorable?

Thanks. That is exactly what my husband said. I quess
the plate is coming out.
