HEy everyone I took my daughter to the MS state fair yesterday and she won 5 goldfish feeder fish. SHe loves them. I read somewhere that they can get to be a whole foot long! How long does it take for them to get that big?

if they live that long... I never had luck with fish from the fair... my goldfish are kept in horse troughs and are doing grat and getting big... mine are 2 years old and about 4 inches

They won't grow that big in a tank. The size of their enclosure governs the growth.

Yep, years... When I was little, I won a goldfish at the local fair. We put him in my Mom's 55 gallon tank with all her fancy fish. He lived for close to 8 or nine years! At that point he was still only about 7" long... Poor thing died and we all felt bad

Right now we currently have 2 in a smaller tank, and have had the oldest one for 2 years. He's only about 3" long... Good luck!

do they need the oxygen bubble thing or do they just need a big enclosure with a filter?

Thats not true, they will grow but not like normal gold fish not as large.

I thought they outlawed gold fish as prizes at the fairs?

My son has a five yo "feeder" goldfish that he won as a fair prize. Jerry (the fish) is about six inches long and has a 20 gallon tank all to himself. The main thing is to have a good filtration system. Goldfish are nasty dirty!

Depends on the state laws.
