just ordered 50 meat birds. this is my first time trying to raise chickens. should i be using a trough type feeder or a gravity type feeder for them? i attached links for some references, these are not the exact ones i was looking at but should give a good idea of them.

gravity type

trough type

thanks in advance!

We are partial to the hanging type. They both work but our chicks wasted a ton of feed when they could get their feet into the feeder and practice scratching. Make sure they have other roosts or they will tend to want to sit on the edge of the feeder and poop in their feed.

I use a $7 piece of vinyl gutter that I bought at Lowes. I screwed it to the side of their pen. They do knock stuff out of it, but they'll eat it even if it is on the ground. After spending $150 for various feeders and waterers for my layers, ducks, and turkeys I didn't want to buy more expensive equipment.

I use a cleaning supply caddy that I have cut the sides down a little on. It was $6, and for chicks I am not keeping for more than 12 weeks, I do not want to invest in expensive equipment.
