I took a piece of pvc house gutter trough. Bought 2 end pieces for it. Made a shelf for it that put it's top 8" above floor of coop. Shelf is a 2x4 on it's side. It has a lip on it so that the trough cannot slide off. I set two screws just above back edge of trough, and left them exposed about 1/4" to hook over the back of the trough so the chooks cannot tip it over. To remove it, I just lift the nearest (outside ) edge 1/2" and slide it towards me. I fill it each morning and stir in a little calcium and grit. No waste whatsoever. I also had one for water, but the chooks got litter in it all of the time. I was rinsing and changing out water twice weekly. I then decided to just make it a 2nd feeder and it hangs the same ht and is only a little over a foot away from the other one.
I now water outside only. Works great too because when I go out in AM to let the inmates out, they all want a drink of water so I close them out to do my chores, and rarely have more than one or two underfoot. The hog type feeder is great because you could dump in 50 # and not have to look at it again for nearly a month with my 24 chooks. Am thinking of doing one of those in place of what I have. Great for when we go away, and one less thing to do in AM. Just carry a bag of feed down to coop once a month that way. I am talking myself into it.
