My husband has a lot of fishing bait that he doesn't like to use (meal worms, red worms, bait fish etc.) they are all natural, but the package said they have been preserved.and they dont look spoiled, or out dated. (he told me he catches more fish with "fake" bait, or that power bait stuff. My question is can I use them as chicky treats? I would hate to throw it out if I can make my babies happy with it.

i think they are freeze dried "live" bait. so at least they were alive at some point.

Back in my tropical fish keeping days we were always afraid to feed "bait" to our fish that came from unknown sources for fear of poisoning the fish. For that reason I'd think a few times about using these without knowing where they were collected or how they were fed. While a few would probably not harm adult birds, a steady diet or young chicks might have problems.

Back in my tropical fish keeping & reptile keeping there was a fear of feeding worms due to parasites.

* I'm thankful my girls don't like worms.
