Feeding egg shells

Same here....I give them recognizable uncleaned eggshells. Have never had an egg eater. They gooble them up and then lay their next one...no problem.

Mine won't even touch the shells, I can't even break them small enough, don't have a coffee grinder. Ideas??

I wouldn't worry about it.
Throw the shells on the ground and don't give it any more thought

My hens are pretty spoiled when it comes to getting theirs... About once a week I'll take all of our used shells, and some spare eggs, and whip up some egg shell omelettes. I very coarsely crush the shells (a quick squeeze with my hand) and throw them in the eggs when they're almost done. I throw in the fresh shells too.
We have enough birds that spare eggs are never an issue, though.

Put them on a baking sheet and bake at low heat for 30 minutes, then let cool down in the oven. I crush them with my hands. Drying them like that makes them very brittle. They get crushed very finely, no problem.

I am very new to all this, as in I am still in the prep stage and haven't yet purchased my birds. Planning on doing such in the next month or so. Any thoughts on starting to stock up on shells from the "store bought" eggs we are eating now or should I shy away from feeding them the shells from those eggs?

I use an ice cream bucket for my shells. When I get the bucket full, I bake the shells in the oven on a crummy cookie sheet. Then I use a potato masher to crush the shells and I dump them in the coop. I am considering putting the shells in a separate feeder as some people have suggested for oyster shell. I am thinking that way there will be less eggshell wasted because then the hens could just choose to eat them when they feel they need calcium. Right now I feed eggshell and oyster shell because I wasnt too smart in mixing my own feed for the hens and do not think they were getting enough nutrients for their own shells to give them what they need. Once the chickens are healthier, I plan to go to mainly eggshell.

I have a small coffee grinder. I ground up some egg shells in that the other day, and it grinds them into a fine powder in a manner of seconds. I'm mixing it in with the cracked corn and I am certain it is not recognizable as an egg product.
