Feeding fruit?

How old do chicks have to be before they can treat on fruits and veggies?

My Brahma lights enjoy all fruit. It's more the size of the offering that make success. I make sure hard fruit such as apples are chopped to a small dice. This works even when canning large batches of apples and I've got mounds of peels. I simply mince the peels and the next day they're gone.

Just a quick question for those of you that posted the "Treat" chart https://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=2593-Treats_Chart,
Why
is citrus so called bad for chickens?

I (and others I know) have feed citrus to poultry from time to time and had no ill affect. I also know that Citric Acid is a main ingredient in Livestock (and poultry) electrolytes and is also used as a preservative along with rosemary extract in some poultry feeds. Some commercial poultry feeds contain Citric byproducts (rinds, pulp, etc) with no ill affect.
I would love to know just what is so bad about citrus. Does anyone one have a link to a study on this? I have yet found on.

If I throw a slice of cantaloupe in, the only thing left after about a minute will be a paper thin piece of rind. It's pretty hilarious.

My ladies love love love love love --- CORN - they chow down until each kernel is gone - and if it is a cobb you give them -- it is clean in seconds. Ramen noodles go over well with my picky girls and tomatoes they love them --- of course they will part take in lettuce if it is chopped fine with cheese ... Yes my Barred Rock are fun to treat...

My Silkies , well they are even more picky --- they like scratch and corn and chick weed - otherwise do not bother and you could foget anything citrus they would not touch it
