Feeding Oats?

I not only feed scratch feed, I feed extra oatmeal during the big freeze!
I have had no problems, and the hens are laying. We will be back down to 0 degrees this weekend and the poultry need to keep enough weight to keep warm in an unheated barn.

I have some young birds that are looking thin IMO. I was wondering this same thing. So you can just give them dry oats, no water needed? The oats that you can buy in Tractor Supply? I also wondered about beet pulp. And someone mentioned giving oats to the horses as well. Dry or soaked?

Oats have nothing nutritionally amazing about them. That's partially a good thing. They are a well balanced grain that won't throw off the numbers of your other feed. They aren't lacking nutrition and they aren't really high in anything. A good balanced treat and carb source. Also generally easier for animals to digest than corn but that depends on the form each one is in.
