Feeding Wild Birds

Pics
Lots of birds were late last year.
Female redwings never arrived, and there was no nesting at the club last year. Neither did the tree swallows nest - they came for a bit and then left. Bluebirds have been here all winter, but just now are visiting the nest boxes.

The numbers at my feeders have dropped dramatically over the past week. I haven't seen anymore Redwings since that one day last week. I used to have swarms of Goldfinches too but now I only see a few at a time. I'm hoping they've found a new resource and that nothing is happening to them.

What all feeders does everyone have and what do you put in them? I have 2 hanging suet cages and the big wooden feeder also holds two. I like to keep peanut, almond and pecan suets in them cause that seems to be what they like best. I need to pick up more. Most of the time, I just keep BOSS in my feeders but occasionally I'll grab a bag of nut mix that has peanuts, dried fruit, sunflower hulls etc. My finch sock and tube always have niger seed. I'm going to have to dig out my hummingbird feeder soon too. I always make my own nectar :)

If you want to see them go nuts over suet, try apple suet.

Phoebe was checking out the nest site when I got to the club. Still haven't seen the mate. Found the remains of a woodcock. Everything eaten except for the head. I found that unusual as most predators eat the head as the brains are nutritious.
