Feeding Wild Birds

The Rose Breasted Grosbeak males have arrived at the club feeder.

Today the bearded turkey hen showed up at the home feeder. It's been a year since I've seen her. Last year I joked that she was showing up the tom with her on beard length. This year there was no tom with her. Embarrassed? Her beard is now 8 - 10" long. She approached the window feeder, and I got a pretty good estimate as to its length.

Saw a crow being chased by a mess of different kinds of birds, I figure he must have gone on a nest raiding spree!

The Bluebirds have successfully fledged!

Now to get those Titmice out of that low to the ground tree hole, they are all vocalizing in adult fashion now and have been for many days. Any day now, hopefully this morning!

I just saw a Titmouse baby fly out of the tree hole!! It landed shakely but did well in its first flight! Parents are tempting the others out with calls and bugs in their beaks on the adjacent branch. Its about flipping time these babies come out of there, its been brutal worrying about things crawling or slithering in to dine in babies!

I have a bird house on the front porch. Back in April I saw a wren going in and out, aha! A nest.

I'd not seen her in a while, so a couple weeks ago I opened the box to clean out the nest. There were eggs still inside. I shut the door. I checked on Friday, and the eggs were still there, not good.

Something happened to the momma.

The bluebird babes have fledged here, hoping they have another brood.

I saw a turkey hen in my backyard yesterday. On closer inspection she had eight little poofballs following her around. They were so tiny they kept disappearing in the lawn!

Yesterday a hen with poults was seen at the beagle club. I haven't seen any yet this year.

Fledgling Common Grackle. Had 5 adults screaming at me because of the baby.
