Feeding Wild Birds

Winds gusting up to 40mph yesterday, and the turkeys never left the wooded area in the back to forage. At least 4 times they came to the backyard to feed - yeah, I put out extra grain. This morning they came in at daybreak and so far have left for the day.

Turkeys did not visit yesterday. Their loss was the deer's gain. 3 sets of doe/twin combos visited. First set includes a button buck who is a real agitator - head butting his sister and chasing the turkeys when they are present. Second set also contains last year's spike buck. He must have challenged one of the mature bucks as one of his 6" spikes has been broken off. Third and last set to visit includes a high strung, spooky doe and her equally spooky fawns.

To date M&F Downy WPs, M Ladder Back WP, many Tufted Titmouse, Black Capped Chickadee, Nuthatch, M&F Cardinals, of course the Horde of Juncos and a Ring Neck Pheasant that I suspect is a stocked bird as it has no tail feathers. DW once walked up on one of these Pheasants and just bent over and picked it up, no tail and a clipped beak.
