My camera bird feeder always identified them as crows or black birds. I get so excited thinking a crow has visited. Nope, always just a grackleI love it. Looks like a crow.
The crows have always been around, in my yard, and in the trees. But, only in the last couple years have they actually come to eat. Unfortunately my feeders do not accommodate them, but I put plenty of seed on the ground for them and the doves. My camera bird feeder always identified them as crows or black birds. I had problems with the Ravens wolfing suet down years ago too. Try using baffles underneath and on top. A cone turned down on top and and one turned up underneath. This scared off the Ravens for me. Crows are smaller than Ravens but it may work for you.I'm done with feeding summer birds. Cow Birds are all that seem to be here, except for, are ya ready for this, 2 CROWS, they are gobbling down suet blocks and throwing seed down to the Cow Birds and squirrels. No more until the Fall. Still going to take care of DW's Humming Birds that are numerous and zooming like Fighter Jets by the score. Need a helmet and eye protection. Hanging in front of my face, I think they're after my coffeeand strafing pup as we sit on the porch.
If it was that important I would just load up my Grannies ol' H&R Topper 48 .20 gauge and make quick work of 'em with a load of #8s.I had problems with the Ravens wolfing suet down years ago too. I have had a Western Kingbird sit above a hive and pick off the bees as they came out.
Yeah, Catbirds here also and do the same. Only birds I've noticed going for the bees, fortunately they seem happy with the dying ones in front of the hives. Hard on the evicted Drones in the fall too.I have had a Western Kingbird sit above a hive and pick off the bees as they came out.
When I was growing up back east, I had a Catbird do the same.
