Feel bad for chickens out in the rain/wind/cold!

Quote:
It's like a big block of seeds, minerals and all that kind of stuff that you can set out for your chickens to peck at. Mine really liked it. Alot of the feed stores sell them. It is about the same sized as one of those mineral blocks for goats or cattle. I had the block out in my yard, and for the longest time, I couldn't figure out what that nasty smell was, cause I would only smell something when the wind would blow just right. Once I figured out that it was the Flock Block, I decided to put it in another location and let the wild birds eat it. I also noticed that my girls were eating it more than their balanced layer feed, which I didn't like, so between that and the smell, I haven't got one again. The wild birds sure loved me though!

When my birds stand on the porch in the bad weather... I don't really see them as begging to come in, but rather as a let me stand here so you can step out onto our presents... they do it on purpose, don't be fooled!

Mrsbos, if you don't want to feel guilty anymore - just put drapes over your patio door. They can't see you, you can't see them - they go back to their nice secure coop.

Last winter I had 4 hens - many times 2 of them would be standing at the front sliding glass doors, and 2 of them would be standing at the back sliding glass doors, staring in. I know they think our coop is so much cooler than theirs. We just figured they were probably bored - had nothing else to do - so might as well watch some human t.v.

It's probably warmer right there next to the house.

The problem is when they poop. Right at the door to the house.

Mine don't seem to ever want to stay in their coop, no matter what the weather. The sun tells them it's time to get up and go out, so they do. When it rains, they often stand under one of our vehicles, except the rooster, who stands in the rain with his tail on the ground, guarding for predators I guess, unless it's just that he doesn't fit under there. And sometimes they go under the deck.

They're funny, those chickens. If it weren't for the poop, I'd let them in.
