So...
New to the whole Peafowl thing, I have my little baby separated from my chickens, with his own house and run but in the same enclosure. When I go in to the chicken enclosure, the peachick seems to get very distressed that I’m there and appears to be frantically trying to escape it’s run and house and makes a lot of squeaking noise. When I’m not in eyesight baby seems to calm down. We’ve only had chick 2 days, bought from the local feed store. It’s very young and still has downy feathers on its neck. The store said 45 days old, but I suspect younger but have no idea.
Is the chick just scared because it sees me as a predator at the moment? Or is it going to have issues later on? I try to stay in the area for around 5 minutes at a time several times a day but it seems to get even more stressed. It’s eating and drinking, but I don’t know what I could do to help calm the chick, or if over time it will get used to me.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
