Fell From Heaven to My Back Yard

The Michael jordan of chickens!! If it is a he you can have a real flock in no time. Chicken math is real we all suffer from it. There are some easy low cost coop ideas here I have used to be able to have more chickens without breaking the bank. I sell eggs to keep the feed bill low. Life is better with chickens.

Now we always thought would try raising chickens and clean out the coop sitting on the north west part that came with the property. But unless one fell from the sky would be ever do it. Well guess what! It happened!
it appeared in my Oklahoma backyard out of nowhere. Red skinny bird, extremely skiddish. Fed it, gave her water. Made a new friend. She hung tight inside our wisteria bush. My back yard, one acre of land is full of trees and bushes, I guess that makes it attractive to the bird brains. Perhaps she has been hiding out in my yard for weeks!
Asked my neighbor, “is this your chicken?”, “Nup” came the reply. Asked peoplers two blocks South, “Not my chicken”, said they. Asked man two blocks to the north. ”Yeah, could be one of mine, but always escapes, you can have it”.

sigh, no nothing about it but learning fast.
This is a great place to learn and learn I have over the last 2 plus years.. although I'm sure I have much left to learn. These birds have taught me so much..good lucku to you, now get your girl a girl friend at least..! One think is a pretty safe bet.. you'd never have to buy a rooster.. people are always asking who needs one! And maybe you will too! I had my first 6 chicks hatch out yesterday and today.. and it has been worth all the learning curve, worries and money spent.. I'm a grandma to chicks!

Ummm, I think she a he. Can you get a full profile picture and make sure the saddle feathers are clear? They are the feathers on the lower back in front of the tail.
If they are long and pointy he's a cockerel.

I thought it looked like an adult female Rhode Island Red, with her feathers a bit wet and mussed up on the back.

With a comb that big and red, the gender should be pretty obvious: a male would probably be crowing, and a female would probably be laying eggs. I don't think OP has mentioned crowing or egg laying, but hopefully it will be clear soon.

I'm really not sure.
I feel that the first photos looked female to me, but these ones look maybe-male, so I'm not sure which way to call it.

I'll tag a few people that are good at sexing, and hopefully we can get this figured out :)

Any opinions on this bird?
There are photos in two posts:
Finally was able to upload some pics of our bird that fell from the sky. Call her Wisty since she loves to hide inside the wisteria bush.

Thanks for putting quotes to the pics there - super convenient!

Cockerel. Male specific saddles are present.
