Female Duck not laying

Howdy everyone just seeing in anyone has any experience with female ducks. I have a 8 month old female duck she’s absolutely a joy to have but she hasn’t laid eggs yet just wondering if ducks take longer to lay than chickens? She’s perfectly healthy and happy. Shes been sleeping in the hens nesting box which is new she started that a few weeks ago but no laying yet. I don’t even know what signs female ducks give when they’re ready to lay either!

some times they do, it depends on when they were hatched your duck came into the world at a time when it would be winter just as she was about to start to lay. Therefore, her body decided to wait until spring. Chances are next year she’ll lay through most of the winter, but perhaps slow down some

Just like chickens (maybe even more so). Ducks will not lay when daylight hours are shorter. Young layers that are not established in the their laying cycle will occasionally lay when there is not much daylight (same for chickens).

My ducks took a long time to lay, even now they’re not frequent yet. One of the signs that your duck is getting ready to lay are that they will get freckles on their bill.
