Female duck obsessed with getting laid, injuring herself

I've had one drake that had extreme lust for food and it made him fat. It gained a lot of weight and grew too fast. His legs did not allow that and eventually he started limping and it got even worse, because he ended up laying on the ground most of the day, doing nothing, except eating. I gave him tons of niacin (yeast), because I was kind of certain it's niacin deficiency. It was not - he just got too fat. At one point I saw how much weight he gained and I stopped bringing food closer to him, I lowered their feed amount and forced them to start foraging. He soon got better and at this time, he walks perfectly normal again.

She might be a bit overweight but not near enough to cause a sudden change in balance control, and she's usually veey active. I added some liquid vitamin b complex to the water and will get niacin tablets tomorrow, maybe the brewers yeast hasn't been enough? Not sure what else to do, just hoping she recovers like before.
Part of my original question, though, in case she does recover - is there anything I can do to calm down the frantic mating behavior?

Keep them separated for a while my Runners were like that at a very young age but there were 6 of them and they would mount each other so I guess that helped some. At 3 months old she doesn't need to be breeding anyway. Keep them separated but where they can see each other for a few more months give her time to mature.

Do you have other females?

I am thinking it's a nutrient deficiency which happens a lot in growing ducks especially Pekins they are super fast growers. Make a way for her to get in and out of the pool safely like Ravynscroft said and hopefully it won't take long to get her in shape again. How much niacin is in the B complex have you been using 1 Tab of brewers yeast to 1 cup of food? I am thinking you need to either use the brewers yeast at proper dose or switch to niacin if the B complex doesn't have at least 125 or up niacin in it. Don't want to over dose either. Now if you decide to go with niacin it has to be plain niacin not time released and also can't be flush free. I bought Niacinamide [niacin] on line that is what you want to use. Some stores still carry it thought you'll just have to call around.

Have you considered getting her therapy? Or maybe having a heart-to-heart with her and saying "Hey, you're a young, beautiful duck and you need to be spending more time thinking about YOU and less time thinking about drakes?" Maybe encourage her to spend more time on meaningful pursuits so she has less time to obsess over drakes? Get her a horse of something. Girls love horses. And I get that there's a 99% chance that she'll panic and freak out and hate the horse and you'll wind up selling it and being really embarrassed when you try to explain why you got it in the first place, but there's always that 1% chance that you will have video of a duck riding a horse.

Ok I'm getting a bit confused on the niacin type issue. This says that niacinamide is a derivative of nicotinic acid (niacin) and is the "flush-free" version of niacin. So wouldn't I be looking specifically for nicotinic acid since it is the flush-inducing version?

Also, no, no other female ducks, just the male/female pair and 6 chickens. We were hoping for two female ducks when we got them, but since they came from a farmer, there wasn't a way to tell until about a month ago when the quacking/lack of quacking became obvious. There isn't a good way for me to separate them in general, but they will definitely be getting separate pool time for the next few months.

Lol thank you, I needed that laugh this morning

The Niacimamide I have reads with neither of those ingredients in it that you mentioned.

@Amiga

Niacin as inositol hexanicotinate is also known as flush free niacin, which means that you don't experience an uncomfortable "flush" when taking this product.
[inositol hexanicotinate]
This is not in Niacinamide

That links description of flush-free is not completely accurate, as it does say it will still cause sweating...

And this one also mentions Inositol Hexanicotinate that was talked about on a Niacin thread I was reading on this site - as the version not to use - and puts it in the same category as Niacinamide so then wouldn't Niacinamide also not work?? Getting more confused...

http://www.medbroadcast.com/channel...raceuticals/dont-be-fooled-by-no-flush-niacin

Niacinamide is a derivative of nicotinic acid... products labeled as "Flush Free" contain inositol hexanicotinate instead of nicotinic acid, and that is what you want to avoid...

Simple answer, find a Vitamin B Complex... see how much Niacin is in each tablet... take enough tablets to add up to 125mg of Niacin, crush, dissolve and add to 1 gallon of her drinking water, fresh daily...
