Female duck problems

Let us know what you find.

I cracked today's eggs open earlier, to find that Jemimas has a clear bull's eye, and Juliét's has the same pattern, but fainter? Not sure if that still means Juliét's was fertile or not? But for the first time in weeks, I saw Gerald mate Juliét in the pool today! After that, it seemed like Jemima didn't do the side-ways head bobbing telling off thing to Juliét as much throughout the day (when I periodically went out to check on them). I must just be being overly worried about the ducks as they find their places in the flock?

Can you post a video of what she is doing. My Runners head bob sideways to their drake and each other and my 4 month old Runner head bobs to the geese. lol
I will try to get a video sometime today. And haha, shame we don't understand duck language, seems complex

Thought I would update this thread:

The day after I posted this thread, my issues seemed to stop! I could almost swear my ducks use the forums too... Jemima has stopped aggressively head bobbing and shooing off Juliét, and Jemima has been laying LARGE hard shelled eggs for the first time! Only had one soft shelled egg after posting this... So I feel like I have wasted everyone's time, haha... Sorry...

Forgot to mention the sister to my 4 month old also heads bobs to me! They are so comical!

I appreciate your diligence and time responding to my posts, I also see you helping everyone else out and really respect you for that. The world needs more people like you to share their knowledge and help others

That’s so sweet of you to say:hugs love helping when I can. Great news about ducks accepting each other and eggs. And you did not waste anyone’s time at all.

Haha thanks :) (not sure how to do the hugging emote). I'm glad about everything too, must have just been weird hormones from being a new layer?
I have also been opening the duck's coop door in the morning to find Juliét sitting on both of the eggs (hers and Jemimas)... Could this mean she is going broody? The tip of her beak has gone a bit paler, but it can't be illness because she's active and greedy as ever. When I put fake eggs in their coop to stop them from eating their eggs, 3/4 of those magically ended up in a pile with her egg too (Jemima wasn't laying at this time).
Sorry to add another question on the end haha, I don't know any friends who have ducks in real life to ask about duck-related things lol.

Well only way to know is leave her alone with the eggs, once she quits laying and sticks to the nest 24/7 except to come out to eat an poop and bath you’ll know she’s broody. If your hoping then I’d mark the eggs so you’ll know when she gets serious an any eggs added after that from Jemima can be removed so you don’t have staggered hatch. Keep us updated.
