Female quail foaming?

So im pretty sure my quail is a female, above her vent i can feel something hsrd and smooth like an egg about to be laid, (i can sometimes feel it on my other female quail) but shes foaming as if shes a male? What does this mean? I was researching and im wondering if it was transfered from a male while mating?

Check again. The boys that I successfully vent sexed produced a fair amount of foam. If it's producing foam, it's a he.

Ah, she just laid an egg. And there isnt any more foam.
