What kind of fencing is best to use for goats? I was thinking chain link, but someone today said that chain link will not keep goats in because they lean and rub on it. What is best?

Woven wire is great (probably the best) but all I have ever used is electric..Now many will say that you cant hold a goat in with electric and thats true with electric fences that arnt set up right or fences that arnt set up for *goats*....
*Electric fences have to be grounded correctly..Two or three ground rods 5' or 6' long...
*Make sure the strands are coorectly spaced...
* The charger is everything..GO BIG OR GO HOME with goats!! Those two and ten mile boxs are barely an irritation to goats..A good charger should scare the manure out of a goat..Its a mental barrier and if the charger only irritates them then its no good..You have to put the fear of Tesla in them

PS, chain link will hold them..It wont matter if they rub on it as long as its securely anchored and properly mounted..

My mom keeps her goats in a chainlink fence..

We use electric. wires spaces about every 4 to 6 inches. we had a wimpy charger at first and they would just run through. So we got a really good strong charger and they won't go near it. Even our mini donkey won't go near. I was not so confident electric would work at first, but i do think it is great now.

Oh and yes we have good grounds, they are necessary.

Get the hottest fence charger that you can. We have field wire and electric (2 strands). We had a billy a couple years ago that would still walk right through it to get to the girls.

I use cattle panels lined with a smaller holed wire to keep babies in... never had one escape

I didn't know you could contain goats with fencing!!

M y goats have no respect for any type of fence. They consider it a challenge/

I use the goat/sheep panels and have never had any problems with my goats escaping. Of course, that isn't the most economical way to do things, but they can't get out of it!

They make heavy wire fencing just for sheep and goats but the problem is that if your goats like to jump up on the fence it starts to look a little battered after time. I use electric fencing with steel wire and have not had any problems as they respect the fence and will not even stick their head through to taste something on the other side. If you want to use wire fencing I would put 2 hot wires on the inside to keep them from climbing on the fence. Good luck !!

We have miniture goats and we use five foot welted wire fence. Our one goat can jump it, But we let them out in the morning since we live so far off the road. I is mainly to keep other anamils out at night.
