Feral Cat Problem.

This is about feral cats like the one that bit a bullet last night in my yard. Like its a big deal we are talking about strays too well they kinda go along with the subject.

Whoever feels the need to report something as stupid as that needs something better to do with their spare time.

Misleading..... HA!

Hey shepherd, did you lie in wait or what? I've got two problem cats and two bullets with their names on em. I would have plugged them before now, but they take off into the woods before I can get out of the door.

The one I got a few weeks ago I trapped. The one that I got last night I just saw him and got the gun as quickly as possible. Just have the gun close by so you can get it fast when you see them again.

You can all out hunt them if you have a good dog you can tree them then take them out.

Im sure there are feral cats around here, tho not as bad as they used to be. I think the coyotes and owls get their fair share. I know my neighbor used to put his 2 cats out at night and bring them in the morning, until only one came back. They found the other carcass up in a large oak tree on their property.

Yeah, here's my thoughts on this subject... This link is my thread. I shot a cat who was caught eating one of my chickens in the run. I've got a fair amount of support from fellow BYCers but there's always those naysayers who like to throw Laws and Peta and that garbage in your face... If the cat is eating your chickens, it deserves to GO!

I agree with pookiegoldan....I have a pet cat, i like cats, i shot a cat that killed two of my NH Reds awhile back..You gotta do what you gotta do...I see cats around my property now and then. Most don't mess with my hens, i leave them alone, they kill rodents...I raise hens for eggs which are one of my main sources of protein.I can't afford to have a cat around that stalks and kills my hens...Thats just the way it is...

Happily I have only ever had cats adore or fear my birds, never once attempt to harm them in any way. That said, I know there are exceptions to this that some folks experience. For the feral kitties, I do my best to trap, spay/neuter and find good homes, since it's not their fault some irreponsible idiot human got them in the fix they're in. Doing what I can to mitigate for my species, wishing I could do more

In support of JJthink. If you kill ferel cats new ones will move into the area. Only a certain number of cats can be supported in a particular area. The best way is to trap -- spay/neuter-- and return the cats to the area so they will prevent others from moving in. It doesn't sound like most of you would be bothered to do this so you could contact a local rescue group and they would probably do it for you--especially if they knew you were killing the cats.
I have cats and the rooster as well as the hens keep the cats in line. The rooster also keeps the dogs in line and the dogs keep all other animals out. No doubt there will come a day when something will try to get my birds--I'm counting on my dogs.

Ok, still being reported for some reason. I think it would behoove everyone involved in this thread to re-read (or read for the first time) the sticky thread with the suggestions for this forum, bold emphasis mine--this is not aimed at any particular person here, but from the reports, I fear this thread may end up circling the toilet bowl if we aren't careful:
