To the OP, I have only had ferals truly adore or fear my chickens, so I've been lucky as I know this is not always the case for others.
I befriend, then spay/neuter all ferals I can catch (and whatever other med care they need), and then find them homes where they can be fed and cared for and not take the toll on wildlife that they had to take prior. Not easy, not cheap (requires working on average 3 jobs), but all have turned out to be wonderful beings once they've had TLC.... and I feel good about it. The only reason they were so alone and starving to begin with is because of humans, so I'm doing what I can to mitigate for the irresponsible behavior of my own species. I know there are many people who won't go to these lengths - to each his own, do not wish to argue the point. I just don't find it easy to kill - the only species that irritates me that much is my own!
