Feral chicken: Hen or Rooster?

I have a friend who is offering me a feral hen. I am concerned about disease? I have not seen the chicken yet - but how would I know that it is safe to introduce her into my flock? I've got 9 super healthy hens at the moment...

Chicken can fly - do yourself a favor - quarantine her for a month. worm her, check /treat for mites/ lice and if all is good, follow the "Look but don't touch," method of flock integration.

thanks for this advice...should I have quarantined areas in both coop and run?
