Feral Chickens, St. Croix Virgin Islands (pics)

Thats interesting. Its neat seeing the different color variations. You can imagine how diverse they're genes are.

Perhaps its a big melting pot that will result in a new breed someday?

Thanks for sharing!

a land race perhaps - some are very much interested with the Key West Chickens for this and same idea as Icelandic and Swedish Flower and Quechua and a lot of many others.

Does anybody has the Key West Chickens? Once I had some eggs for free but I did not care at the time they were sent extra with others a I threw them for space.

The St. Croix chickens are not protected like the Key West are. If I move there I could gather up the most colorful flock on the planet and ship eggs to whoever "needed" them.

Onthespot, I just found this thread - don't know if you are still subscribing, but these are beautiful shots! I was married on the island and in my wedding video, even tho it was early evening, you can hear a rooster crowing in the background. Wonder if you would classify the chickens as bantams - they are pretty small.
