The closest feral pigeons are 21km away. And I don’t think they’ll travel this far with all these birds of prey around. I’ll just enjoy watching them when I’m around some urban areas.

I thought I was the only weird guy who liked to watch the feral pigeons lol.

If I take a break, I like to sit down and just watch what they are up to. Like seeing the males dancing and courting the females, and the young ones learning how to get food and tackling the older pigeon bullies.

I like to help any sick ones I find. Like taking anything off their legs and feet that they get tangles in, or feeding some that have trouble getting to the food because of a broken beak or a missing eye. I rescued a few over the years.. including one with no feet. She was so sweet and happy and was able to get about OK in my coop (in the city she was really thin as she could not get to the food)

The other week we went into the suburbs with my Nan and Pop to these markets that were this school. I was very bored so I was watching the pigeons.

Their was a lot of male pigeons courting females and also each other. And they kept flying back and forth (I guess they would usually be forging for food in the school). Their was this really nice black cock bird on the roof as well.

Also I find it werid even the ferals have a higher male number. With my pigeons their are so many females who aren’t paired up. And only so many males I can use. I’m still wondering why this is.

I think its just bad luck. In my last flock I had a real shortage of males too.... It was OK though as the females would pair up and the males went about mating with all the females, so I got 4 squabs out of each nest instead of 2 lol.

I think you see more males in the feral flocks because a lot of the females will be on the nest brooding the eggs out of sight.
