Fermented Feed

Looking on the internet, I see some people cover with cheesecloth, some set the lid lightly on top and some totally close it up.
What are the fermenter's practices here?
Cheesecloth is good for keeping out small bugs (like fruit flies).

Setting the lid on top lightly is ok, but fruit flies can sneak into small gaps.

Whatever you do, do NOT tightly lid the container. The build up of gases inside can cause it to explode.
