FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Here's a pic of Freddie aka Frederic Alan. He's 1 of my almost 9 month old oegb. He's a total character-sweetheart & brat. Though not my brattiest. This is a few days old. Need more recent pics of everyone else. It's that line down the front & feeling the keel that worries me. He likes to knock on my window & sneak into the house every chance he gets. Lol brat announces when he does too.

Half a cup of FF per day per chicken has ended up being precisely what my chickens consume even if I have dished out extra.

And I have never seen them over-eating, either.

Per day. Each bird can get by on approx. 1/2 c. of feed per day if you are feeding a balanced ration.

My girls eat all I've ever fed them. Cut them back today, no squawks but the sure cleaned up their bowl, ha ha. Thank you for setting me straight.

Hi. I'm on post #2040 & still reading. I've been doing fermented feed for almost a month now. I put out feed I the am or early afternoon depending on how slow I am. My birds except for 2 cockerels have free of the yard. My flock is mixed for ages & breeds. I've 4 about 1.5 yrs, 13 that are almost 9 months old, & 15 that are almost 6 months. I'm feeding 2 parts flock raiser, 1 part barley-flaked corn-protein pellet, & now 1 part bunny pellets. I added the bunny pellets because I have been catching them eating it so figured they need it. I've a mix of ameraucana, bantam cochins, sex links, polish, bantam sultans, oegb, bantam Brahma, & crevecoeur. I'm feeding half a round 14lb frosting bucket (haven't measured cups) that's gone generally before night. My crazy birds did eat less out of bowls to to do just putting it on the ground. So it's on the ground. My problem is that I can feel sharp breastbones & see that line down the middle of the chest on the tighter feather birds. I've given 2 pumpkins since Halloween & am fermenting tomatoes, jalapenos, & pumpkin now. Feathers look great, bright eyed, active, no sign of worms in poop, good poops, & hormones starting for the younger. How can I get weight on? We hit the 20s last night & I've several who won't coop, they prefer the patio. My coops are open front & dog crates with wood leaned against. I'm working on changing, slow due to being disabled & life crappy events. Thanks
Hi.

Just wanted to say that my chickens eat Styrofoam and card board, that doesn't mean they need it!

I would skip the rabbit pellets.

Also, it isn't weight that will keep them warm. It is feathers.

I tried to scroll back and see who was talking about collecting rain water so I could mention a few things.... if anybody knows who it was...

Up until this past year, somewhere in Colorado... it was actually illegal to collect rain water off of your own roof!

Also, I collect rainwater... but I fell uncomfortable using for animals with my composition shingle roof, not knowing what kind of chemicals may be there, plus it always has particulate like sand or gravel off of them. So I use that for the garden. And collect water from the metal roofs we have for animals drinking. Don't know if it matters cuz they drink out of what they want...
Might have been me, I do collect the rain water that falls onto the roof of the run for the chickens and have mentioned doing so in many threads (don't remember if this was one). However the 'roof' is not composite or shingle anything; it is a plastic tarp. Also I'm in S. Carolina, so Colorado laws don't affect me. But thanks anyway.

Lol. Yeah, mine are helping my dog door project at the opening on the outside. They're pecking at the stucco & styrofoam underneath.

I was thinking they were after the bun pellets cause they were wanting greens. My yard is bare & I'm fairly certain they've about gotten every lead in tech on the trees. They were even on the fence going after leaves. I haven't seen that in the past couple days since I added the bun pellets. Might be coincidence. I'm working my way they the mix with it so I'll find out then.

Thanks

Here's a pic of pidje, one of my 6 month old cockerels. He's a bantam Cochin. Sorry about the dirty glass. We just got rain, dust blew thru too, & dogs don't help. Lol I'm loving his he's looking. Gorgeous sheen & glossy. Thought I'd share. Thanks all

PS, beekissed your gnarly bunch blog helped me last year when my sex link chicken had mites-just her weird. Thank you so much for all the information & help you've provided. I'm happy to report she's been clear of them since. Thank you for the information you share & help you've given. I would've been lost last year without it.
