Fermented Feeds

I did not know I could give my chicks azomite. i have a big bag i use in my garden. I am doing my first 5 gal bucket of FF using barley, vinegar, chick food so you say I can add a cup of azomite to my mixture even if it is already 3 days in the fermenting stage?

I wouldn't add quite that much. I put a couple of Tbls to a mixture and it can be added at anytime. I also sometimes add kelp. Good luck. Stir daily.

You should not contaminate your starter. You should only use starches (chicken feed). If you want to add something, add it after the starter is completed fermentation and when you remove it to feed the chickens. DO NOT CONTAMINATE YOUR STARTER! After you remove your chickens daily rations you can add anything you want to their rations but not to the original starter. FERMENTED FEED IS NOT COMPOST.

Day 3 of feeding FF.

If my ff is too soupy, they turn their noses up. I then add a little dry feed around the edges and they gobble the whole thing up.My ff always smells delicious.

Sorry I just saw this. Yes I agree to food products. The only thing I add to mine is rock dust Azomite and a little kelp. It won't contaminate it.

Hey LindaB220, my post was in reaction to people who seemed to putting all kinds of things in the ff starter and then wondering why they were getting mold and unpalative (is this aword...."stinky") odors from ff. By the way, what is azomite and what do you like about it?

Azomite is a rock dust that has like 70 something minerals in it. I put 1-2 T in my 5 gallon bucket. It just helps . It's also used as a soil amendment. Put 1 tlb around new plants and mix it in a bit with your hands. My DD brought in the mail the day it (35 lbs.) was delivered. She said, "What have you got in there, rocks?" Yes.
